Academy Update

Winter weather vs Skills Tests

Due to the weather, we haven’t been able to complete our usual FL Skills Tests, meaning we’ve been unable to update skills cards and leaderboard rankings as planned.

However, we’ve still kept all juniors developing by thinking a little outside the box — using Trackman range games and performance challenges to keep sessions competitive, enjoyable and (most importantly!) warm and dry.

App upgrades + Skills Test improvements

While the weather hasn’t played ball, it has given us a great opportunity to improve the Fairway Legends system. We’ve spent time:

 ✔️ building out the FL App

✔️  tweaking our Skills Tests

 ✔️ refining how tests can be completed in a group environment

 ✔️ adjusting sessions to suit the facilities we currently have

As soon as conditions allow, we’ll be back to full skills testing so all players can track:

• their current ability

• what they need to improve next

• how they rank on the leaderboards

This is a huge part of our academy pathway and keeps training focused, measurable and motivating.

New App Content: Swing Faults & Fixes Library

A major addition this month is our brand-new Swing Faults & Fixes library inside the FL App.

This is a game changer for academy players — helping you instantly access guidance on the most common issues we see, and how to fix them:

• grip & setup issues

• slicing & hooking patterns

• strike problems (thin/fat)

• path & clubface mistakes

• posture and movement faults

It’s like having a mini coach in your pocket, and it also helps players and parents stay aligned with what we’re working on in sessions.

Midweek Academy Improvements (Oct–April)

We’ll be honest… we’ve admitted defeat with midweek outdoor academies during the worst of winter.

So we’ve adapted 💪

From now on, between October and April, we will be offering:

Indoor Midweek Academies in the FL Performance Studio

For:

• Juniors

• Men’s

• Ladies

These sessions have already been brilliant. Players are enjoying all the studio perks including:

🎯 skills challenges

🏌️ mini games and competitions

📊 performance benchmarking

All while staying warm, comfortable and training consistently through winter — which is where most golfers make their biggest improvements.

Tuition Update

Lessons are BUSY

Lessons have been extremely busy over the past month, with many golfers already preparing their swings for the 2026 season.

This is the perfect time of year to get ahead — by the time spring arrives, you don’t want to still be finding your swing… you want to be ready to score.

Tuition Highlight: Ashley Franks’ Transformation

One standout this month has been MHGC member (and my friend) Ashley Franks.

Ashley has been working with me for a while now, and the transformation is honestly incredible.

He has gone from being an extreme over-the-top player, with a wide open clubface causing:

• shanks

• big slices

• inconsistent strike

…to a golfer with a consistent in-to-out swing path, producing confident, powerful draws.

Ashley won’t mind me saying he isn’t the most naturally gifted sportsman — he’s had to work extremely hard on his technique. That’s what makes this progress so rewarding, and it’s also exactly why I love coaching.
